YES. The National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act of 2000 authorizes the transfer of some 300 historic light stations across the country over the next decade. Each of these landmarks will be declared "excess property" and will be available for transfer to local governments or non-profit organizations which promise to always use the property for educational, recreational, cultural and historic purposes. The Pemaquid Point Light Station tower has not yet been declared excess property, but could be listed as such as early as this year. The Bristol Lighthouse Committee will be ready to apply for full ownership when the tower becomes available.
